Asociacion Fondo de Desarrollo

Asociacion Fondo de Desarrollo (FDL) is one of the largest microfinance institutions in Nicaragua. Its aim is to improve the social and economic position of low-income groups, especially in rural areas. FDL holds a strong position as a credit provider in rural areas, but it also issues group loans to women in urban areas. By focusing mainly on rural areas, FDL is able to make a tangible contribution to the development of Nicaragua, the poorest country in Latin America. FDL also provides special ‘green loans’ to farmers to enable them to conduct their business in a more environmentally friendly manner. The loans from Triodos Fair Share Fund, Triodos-Doen and Hivos-Triodos Fund will enable FDL to continue to serve its unique target group.
