Lending to organic businesses now accounts for a third of all borrowing from Triodos Bank in the UK and we work with around 200 organic producers and farms around the UK. We work closely with the Soil Association, providing its banking services and funding its important research. We also take part in ‘conversion’ events to encourage and support conventional farmers switching to organic methods.
A naturally diverse sector
But there’s much more to the organic sector than just farming. Triodos is involved with businesses producing everything from beauty products to vegan chocolate. And exciting opportunities for well-managed organic businesses are on the increase, thanks to growing awareness of health and wellbeing, and the clear need to adapt to a "post-oil" economy. So there are more and more possibilities in new markets, and increasing demand in existing ones.
