Social Housing
Supporting affordable housing for those who need it most
As Europe’s leading sustainable bank, Triodos is ideally placed to support the social housing sector. In fact, it was our fastest growing area of investment in 2009, when we agreed £96 million in loans for housing associations. We have an in-depth understanding of the social housing sector and a firm commitment to offering it long-term support.
Case study
Helping provide low-cost, high quality homes
Triodos Bank provided Cornwall Rural Housing Association (CRHA) with a structured £2 million loan and a £900,000 revolving loan facility. These complement its Homes and Communities Agency grant funding, and will help finance its continuing growth in the social housing sector.
CRHA builds affordable homes with low running costs in rural Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for local people who need low-rent, high quality accommodation. Many recent CHRA projects include ground-source heat pumps and some properties have rainwater harvesting and solar thermal systems. CRHA has won awards for its focus on offering a higher standard of affordable rented accommodation that complements its surroundings.

"This facility gives us the capacity to further expand our development programme, and to meet the continued and growing demand for affordable social housing in our catchment area. We are particularly pleased that Triodos are able to meet both our charitable and commercial needs, which gives us great support in meeting the challenges of more uncertain housing and financial markets."
Wide-ranging lending options
There are many ways we can offer financial support for development programmes, buying or improving housing stock, or refinancing existing projects. And there’s access to extended drawdown, interest-only periods and fixed-rate borrowing. We also offer finance for established trading subsidiaries of housing associations.
