It’s now widely accepted – by the public, politicians and scientists alike – that global climate change is the single most urgent problem facing mankind. If finally gaining international consensus has been a long time coming, building genuine solutions represents a challenge unlike any before it. Yet there’s reason for some optimism. One of the most powerful, positive things we can do is to support moves to generate our energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydro. More specifically, individuals can choose to invest in renewable energy and act to tackle climate change now.

Since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, Triodos Bank has pioneered the development and finance of the European renewable energy sector. Triodos Renewables, which is managed by Triodos Bank, has built on this work in the uk, connecting over 3,000 investors with inspiring projects that offer pragmatic solutions to our energy problems.

While the impact and activities of Triodos Renewables have developed, so have the UK renewable energy sector’s wider prospects, ranking fifth in a recent independent industry review of the world’s most attractive countries for new wind investment(1).

Investing in Triodos Renewables means you can address your carbon footprint. Currently an investment of £2,970 in the Fundraising will produce renewable energy output equivalent to the average person’s annual carbon footprint(2).

IF I INVEST, HOW WILL YOU USE MY MONEY?
The Company plans to use the money raised by the new share issue to more than double the amount of green electricity it produces in the next two to three years. Since its last share issue in 2005, Triodos Renewables has grown considerably, acquiring and investing in projects ranging from single wind turbines in industrial England, to tidal turbines off the coast of Northern Ireland. Triodos Renewables now plans to issue up to 5.5 million new shares at £1.65 per share and looks forward to both new and existing shareholders taking part.

WHY SHOULD I INVEST?

Experience. Triodos Renewables is run by experienced renewable energy professionals from a bank that has financed the renewable energy industry for over 25 years.
Track record. Triodos Renewables has a demonstrable track record and has developed exciting acquisition and development opportunities for the future.

Community of interest. An active community of more than 3,000 shareholders make the Company what it is - attracting developers and other stakeholders from across the industry. We believe these people invest in and support the Company because of its ethos and commercial strengths.

Portfolio. Triodos Renewables’ generating capacity has grown from 3.4 MW in early 2005 to 23.45 MW at the end of 2007, an almost sevenfold increase capable of generating enough energy for 15,000 homes(3). The Company owns wind turbines from England’s most easterly point (one of the largest in the country) to the island of Orkney (at one of the UK’s windiest sites) and has invested in an innovative tidal energy company who recently installed the world’s first commercial tidal stream generator.

Returns. If the 2007 dividend of 2 pence (as declared by the Directors) is approved, an investment in the 2005 share issue would have returned 22.9%, or an average of 7.1% each year. The Directors believe the Company can reasonably be expected to achieve or exceed this performance in the coming years. However, past performance is not necessarily a guide to the future and the Company’s earnings growth is unlikely to be smooth. The timing of planning decisions, risk of development failure, and when we employ our capital have significant impact on short-term results. Investing in the company is intended to be for the long-term; both dividend income and share price may fluctuate. It might be difficult to sell or realise your investment or to obtain reliable information about its value or other risks to which it is exposed, and you might not get back the full amount invested.

By investing in the Triodos Renewables share issue, you will actively participate in the growing renewable energy market and join a powerful community of people actively building a more sustainable future.

2 The average person’s carbon footprint (10.55 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum) has been calculated using the UK’s total annual greenhouse gas emissions from 2007 (www.defra.gov.uk) and dividing this by the UK’s population (www.statistics.gov.uk). The calculation is based on a shareholding of 1,800 shares.

3 All ‘home equivalents’ comparisons refer to the amount of electricity needed to meet the needs of a home based on average uk domestic electricity consumption.
