How to apply
The application process is simple and usually follows several basic steps:
- make initial contact, by phone, in writing or by e-mail. Keep a brief summary of what you want to do handy.
- if you have not done so already, we will ask you to send us a brief written summary, typically about three or so pages long with the main points listed.
- we will then discuss your application by phone and ask you to send a detailed business plan if appropriate. This needs to cover all the key aspects of your project.
- we may need further information to consider your application – we will discuss this with you.
- if it seems appropriate, we will arrange a meeting, usually at your premises, for a more detailed discussion.
- we will come to a decision about your application at meetings of our Loan Committee, held weekly on Mondays. If it is a positive decision, we will make you an offer, including any terms and conditions attaching to the loan.
- if the offer is acceptable to you, we will ask you to send us written confirmation.
- the formalities of putting the loan security in place are completed and the loan is advanced.
This process can take varying amounts of time depending on a number of factors such as the nature of the project and the sort of preparation you have made. At the point that you have given us all the information we need, we can normally make a decision within one week. However, we will tell you as soon as possible if your application is not successful.
