Using your account

Triodos is a phone, postal and online bank, so there are a number of ways you can access your savings with us. We don’t have a branch network, which means we’re able to commit more of the money that savers and investors entrust with us to support organisations working to benefit people and the environment. We’re open from 10am to 5pm on Monday, and 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Friday. And if you choose to use our internet banking service, you can access your accounts round the clock, at a time that’s convenient for you (click here for more information about Internet Banking).

Paying into your account

Opening deposit
Your opening deposit must be made by cheque. The cheque must come from a sterling account in your own name, and be made payable to you, and not Triodos Bank.

Opening deposit for online only accounts
Your opening deposit must be transferred electronically from your nominated account, which must be a personal account held in your own name.

Once your opening deposit has been received, you can make future payments into your account in the following ways:

  • instructing another bank or building society to make an electronic transfer (known as BACS) from your account with them, to your account at Triodos Bank
  • bank giro credit across the counter at any UK bank or building society using one of our paying-in slips. You may be charged for this or any other counter service
  • standing order through another bank or building society
  • by post with a paying-in slip or letter using our Freepost address (Triodos Bank, Freepost BS9292, Bristol, BS8 3BR) - we cannot accept cash by post
  • by Faster Payments, a faster way of transferring funds to other UK accounts than a regular (BACS) payment. In most cases the payments will be made on the same day
  • by CHAPS, a guaranteed 'same day' electronic payments system, within the UK
  • or international electronic transfer from other countries - please ask us for details.

You start earning interest on your deposits on the day they reach us.

Payments from your account

If you have an Online only account, or if you’ve arranged to manage your existing account online, you can access your savings account 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply log-in and arrange to transfer money to your nominated account(s). The payment will be made once the account notice period has passed (click here for more information about Internet Banking).

For all our other accounts, and if you’ve chosen not to manage your existing account online, you can either send a completed Triodos Bank withdrawal request form or a letter with your payment instructions. Once the account notice period has passed, we can then:

  • transfer funds by BACS to a specified account at another UK bank
  • transfer funds by CHAPS to another bank account within the UK
  • transfer funds to a bank account in another country by international electronic transfer - please ask us for details.

At our discretion, you may be able to withdraw your money before the end of your notice period, but a charge will be applied.

For more information about using your account, call us on 0845 769 7239 or see our Terms and Conditions for personal savings accounts.
