What's Triodos Bank's policy on interest rates?

We aim to keep our interest rates healthy and sustainable for both borrowers and savers. This means that while we might not match the 'headline' rates advertised in the papers - often with quite restricted terms and conditions - we offer healthy rates with a positive financial as well as social return.

How do you calculate and pay interest?

You start earning interest on your account from the day we receive your funds. This is calculated on a daily basis according to rates set out in our current interest rate schedule. We normally pay you interest on 1 July and 1 January, but some accounts have their interest paid monthly or quarterly. All rates of interest can be changed at the Bank's discretion. We will let you know of any changes within 30 days by letter, e-mail or personal notice.

Do you take tax off my interest?

Lower rate tax will be deducted from your interest unless your account is registered as tax exempt, either because you don't normally live in the UK or if your income is below the tax threshold. To register as tax exempt you will need to complete R85 or R105 forms. Call us on 0500 008 720 for copies. All ISA accounts are tax exempt.
