Why did you decide to open a Triodos Current Account?

My wife and I already had savings accounts with Triodos Bank when the current account was announced – we were very much counting down to its launch. We wanted a current account that was shaped by ethical values and offered by a bank with a different approach. Triodos – with its emphasis on a sustainable future – fitted the bill.

Describe your experience of switching to the Triodos Current Account

I used the Current Account Switch Service. Switching with this service was excellent. I came late to the computer world, but found this extremely easy and relatively trouble-free.

What has been your experience of using the current account?

Since I opened my Triodos Current Account, it has been excellent. It’s easy to use, as you’d expect, and secure. I’ve found the online banking very user-friendly. When I’ve had to speak with customer service, they’ve been very helpful and knowledgeable.

How do you feel about the £3 monthly charge?

For me, it’s part of the Triodos package. The charge is a statement of something positive you’re doing – paying a transparent fee for a service and it makes you feel part of Triodos Bank and the positive impact it’s having.

How do you feel about having online-only access to your current account?

I’m very comfortable about banking online only. When I’ve had to speak with customer service over the phone, you get straight through, and it’s always been a positive experience. The people on the other end really know what they’re talking about.

Why is it important to you that your bank supports your values?

It’s so good to have a bank that is committed to ethical values in a system where most banks are primarily concerned with serving the interest of their shareholders and the profit motive, excluding social and community values. I want to be associated with a bank that fits in with my vision of socialism for the 21st century.

The people that work for Triodos also seem to me to be enthusiastic about the enterprise that they’re working for and the values of the company.

What sectors in society would you like your money to support the most?

Knowing where my money is invested is very important to me. It’s one of the key reasons why Triodos is so appealing.

Renewables obviously stand out as a sector that will be helping save our planet and our future as a species on this planet. I also love all those businesses that are making a positive impact on the way we live in our communities. It’s not just about the eye-catching headlines, it’s about the small-scale businesses that are helping to build a better community so people can live together happier and healthier. I’m so pleased to know my money is supporting businesses like these.
