"Seeing what you've made makes you feel good, makes you try other things daily, makes you open up for a new skill".

One25 has a life-changing effect on some of the most disadvantaged women in Bristol. The charity provides practical support for sex workers, building their confidence and helping them find a future away from life on the streets. One25’s work is truly inspiring and really makes a difference.

This year, the charity launched a life skills programme at its drop-in centre in the city’s St Pauls area, teaching anything from IT and CV writing to art, screen-printing and pottery. It has been transformational. 72 women have taken part in training and built up their confidence, peer support and independence - 37 women built a new life off the streets last year.

‘Ella’ explains, “Life skills has changed my way of living, made me really focused on what to do, knowing there’s more to do than street working.” The women love giving each other peer support during these sessions and two have gone on to become peer mentors, encouraging others to take part in activities.

Triodos Bank is proud to be able to support the charity with this year’s seasonal donation – made by as an eco-friendly alternative to sending corporate Christmas cards. The £500 donation will be used to improve One25’s arts and crafts area where the women, who are often homeless, can learn skills including screen-printing, pottery and felting, and which provides a space where they can store and display the artwork they produce.

One25 are transforming the space, buying a cabinet in which to store the arts and crafts materials, and a ‘plan chest’ to store the artwork - particularly important for the women who are homeless. It will also enable everyone to see how their work is progressing.

Service users Nic and Anne said, “I love seeing the end result, knowing that I’ve got something I feel proud of,” and “seeing what you've made makes you feel good, makes you try other things daily, makes you open up for a new skill”.
