The Triodos Foundation sponsored Horfield Primary School to take part in a Greenpower Education Trust event, getting young people enthusiastic about science and engineering by challenging them to design, build and race an electric car.
"The Greenpower engineering initiative for primary school children to build, decorate and race an electric go-kart was a true beginning-to-end project that could not have happened without the help of sponsoring companies such as the Triodos Foundation.
Our team - called the Horfield Racing Team - was fully conscious of the need to raise funds and was engaged in discussions of how to make a good case for support. They then wrote individual letters to organisations they identified.
The skills the children learned by working together to build a complex piece of machinery, drive safely and competitively, brainstorm a theme for the bodywork, and make it a reality will be invaluable.
The benefits of this project were shared with the rest of the school with regular updates and all-school assemblies to share the success of the project and the activities that were undertaken."
