Reporting directly to the UK Chief Risk Officer (CRO), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the Bank’s strategic direction while demonstrating a deep personal commitment to our mission and values. As Head of Compliance & Financial Crime, you will work closely with the UK management team, serve as a member of the Financial Crime Committee and the Duty and Customer Committee, and build trusted relationships with key external stakeholders.

In this leadership position, you will set the vision and strategy for our second-line compliance and financial crime functions, providing guidance and mentorship to your team and supporting their ongoing professional development. You will also be responsible for the strategic assessment, review, and monitoring of compliance and financial crime risks and controls—ensuring their effective implementation and ongoing adequacy across the organisation.

This role carries significant responsibility and accountability, holding the following externally regulated roles:

  • SMF 16 Compliance Oversight: Overseeing the Bank’s compliance framework and reporting to the governing body.
  • SMF 17 Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO): Ensuring robust anti-financial crime policies and reporting on the effectiveness of controls.

We offer a high degree of autonomy and flexible hybrid working arrangements. This typically involves a minimum of two days per week in our Bristol office, with remote working available on other days. Access to our Edinburgh and London offices is also possible, and occasional travel to our Group Head Office in the Netherlands will be required.

What We’re Looking For:

To thrive in this role, you will bring significant expertise in compliance and financial crime systems, controls, and frameworks, gained in financial services—ideally within retail banking. Your experience includes both strategic and operational oversight of compliance controls, including those related to digital channels, and a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements. You are adept at interpreting and analysing complex regulations and translating them into practical, effective solutions.

Your outstanding people management and leadership skills enable you to foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture. You are a skilled relationship builder, able to engage confidently with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, both in the UK and across our international Group.

At Triodos Bank, we are proud of our unique culture, strong ethical ethos, and our commitment to making a positive impact on society. We are therefore seeking candidates who can demonstrate a genuine alignment with our core values of sustainability and transparency, and who embody the personal integrity and passion to help us drive meaningful change.
