Currently the Refer a Friend Scheme is only applicable to new customers who open a Triodos personal current account. All other accounts are excluded. For us to make the £25 donation to one of our charity partners on your behalf and for your friend to receive their £60 gift, the recommended friend will have to be a new customer to Triodos Bank, open a personal current account and deposit £100 within 30 days to be eligible. New customers must complete these steps within 60 days of registering for the Refer a Friend Scheme. See terms and conditions for full details.
You can recommend as many friends to Triodos Bank as you wish. However, we will only make up to a maximum of 30 donations to your chosen charity within a 12-month period for every eligible friend you refer. See terms and conditions for full details. We’d be delighted though of course if you wanted to recommend many more friends and family but unfortunately it would have to be outside of the Refer a Friend Scheme.
If you think that you have had an account with Triodos in the past please gather as much information as possible relating to the account e.g. account number, type of account, date of the last transaction. If you have any statements of the account please have them to hand and call us, we can then investigate for you and advise you of the next steps. In some cases, we may request identification documents from you to release funds from the account.

If you are an existing customer and over 18, you can refer your friends to open a Triodos personal current account. Once the friend you referred has opened their Triodos personal current account and deposited £100 within 30 days, you both receive a thank you gift (£25 donation to charity for you, £60 voucher or charity donation for them). New customers, the one being referred, needs to have completed their account opening within 60 days of registering for our Refer a Friend Scheme.
To support us in delivering our Refer a Friend Scheme, we’ve partnered with Marketing Lounge Partnership (MLP) who are providers of referral platform services. To participate in the scheme existing customers can either use the link send from Triodos Bank or simply visit join.triodos.co.uk. The link/website will prompt you to register with MLP and agree to the Refer a Friend Scheme terms and conditions to participate.
Once you’ve registered for the scheme, you can refer your friends in a variety of ways, for example by simply and easily sharing a message via social media. If the friend you refer is new to Triodos Bank UK and opens their personal current account and deposits £100 within 30 days you will both receive a thank you gift from us.
Yes, Confirmation of Payee, an account name-checking service, has been introduced to combat fraud and misdirected payment. Triodos is part of this scheme for incoming and outbound payments, and a CoP check will be performed every time you send money from your Triodos account. We encourage you still continue to check payment details in line with our guidance, and regularly review our website for information on how to prevent fraud.

No. If you have applied for your Account by sending your application to us in the post, your opening deposit must be made by cheque. The cheque must be drawn on your personal sterling account held in your name. And made payable to yourself. We can also accept counter cheques, as long as they've been correctly endorsed on the back by the other bank. Your bank will need to stamp, sign and date the back of the cheque and confirm that the funds are drawn from an account in your name.
When you apply for an account online your opening deposit can only be transferred electronically from your nominated account. Please do not send a cheque.

We will send your gift by email within 30 days from you choosing it. You must be a new customer to Triodos Bank to receive your gift. You can login in to your Refer a Friend account at join.triodos.co.uk for a status update – just head to the members area.

When you send money, we will check with the bank you’re sending money to that the name on the account matches the bank details you’ve provided, and let you know if they don’t.

Means the recipient account name you entered matches the payee’s account name.
The recipient name you gave us is a close match, but not exactly the same as the name held on the account
Means the recipient name you gave us is a close match to the name held on the account but not an exact match. We will show the name on the account you’re paying to help you decide whether it’s the right person. You should also double-check the details and request another CoP check before sending any payment.

Means the recipient name you gave us is different to the name held on the account. You should double-check the details and request another CoP check, otherwise your money could be sent to the wrong account.
It is important to be aware that if you choose to go ahead anyway, and the account does not belong to the intended recipient, we may not be able to get your money back.
The recipient bank account does not exist
Means it may be that the recipient account sort code or account number has been entered incorrectly, or the account may be closed. You will need to check with the recipient if their details are correct before you are able to make a payment. If an account does not exist, the payment can't be made.
