What makes this award so special?
Established in 2015, the British Bank Awards are run by Smart Money People, a financial services review site in the UK. The awards are entirely voted for by customers and this year, over 178,000 people shared their views on the best products, innovation and services across the finance sector. These reviews help other customers to feel confident and informed about the financial decisions they make, whilst also giving businesses valuable insights into what they’re doing well and how to create better outcomes for customers.
We were praised by customers for our consistent approach to ethics and our friendly and caring customer service, achieving an overall 4.93 out of 5 rating from nearly 8,000 reviews.
There’s more!
As well as winning Best Ethical Financial Provider, we were also a finalist in seven other categories, including:
- Best Savings Provider
- Best Investments Provider
- Best Current Account Provider
- Best Business Banking Provider
- Treating Customers Fairly Champion
- Best Banking App
- Best British Bank
Being shortlisted in such a broad range of categories demonstrates how our commitment to ethical finance is felt by customers across all areas of our work.
What does this really mean?
For us, being named Best Ethical Financial Provider once again reinforces our mission of changing finance and only lending to organisations that creative positive social and environmental change. Whether it’s a community arts centre, an organic farm or a renewable energy project, we use our customer deposits to create a greener, fairer planet where everyone can thrive.
To win an award based completely on customer reviews also highlights and speaks to the effort of our co-workers who are passionate about delivering positive experiences and outcomes for our customers.
Roger Hattam, Director of Retail Banking at Triodos Bank UK, said:“The British Bank Awards places customer experience at the forefront of its awards, making it very special to win here. Reading the reviews where people have shared their pride in banking with Triodos is hugely encouraging for the whole team.”
All whilst celebrating 30 years of impact
This award feels particularly special this year as we’re celebrating 30 years of Triodos Bank in the UK. Despite all of the growth and change that the bank has undergone since we first started operating in 1995, one thing that remains as strong today is our commitment to making money work for positive change in society.
Triodos Bank has always championed transformative impact, from financing Ecotricity to build its first wind turbine in 1996 to delivering a landmark £20.55m loan to Oxygen Conservation in 2023 (believed to be the UK’s largest conservation-focused commercial debt package at the time).
As well as environmental change, Triodos Bank’s lending has supported social impact and championed inclusion and equality in communities across the UK, ranging from healthcare providers to community-backed projects such as Gympanzees, the UK’s first accessible play centre for disabled children.
Our commitment
We’re also proud to be one of the lowest carbon intensity banks in the UK because we believe that living our values and holding ourselves to account is a must. We have committed to reducing emissions from all loans and investments by at least 42%, and we aim to channel €500m into nature-based solutions by 2030. Nature-based solutions involve working with nature to address societal challenges, providing benefits for human wellbeing, biodiversity and the climate.
