The money in your savings account doesn’t just sit there. When you put money into your bank account, your bank will use that money to fund and give loans to different industries – and a lot of them are harmful to people and the planet. Mainstream banks pour billions into damaging industries such as fossil fuels, tobacco, gambling and deforestation.

At Triodos, we only use your money to fund industries that have a positive impact on people and our planet. We’ve rounded up a few examples of what your money has been supporting in a Triodos savings account.

Nature restoration

Akre nature restoration

Akre was established by the Drysdale family in 2020 and has since constructed a state-of-the-art nursery, Akre Trees. The site has been farmed by the family for five generations, where they plant, grow and nurture woodlands to address the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. Their carbon-negative strategy shows a true commitment to restoring nature across Scotland.

Renewable energy

Solar for Schools

Solar for Schools is a community benefit society that provides solar panels to schools across the UK. These installations not only help schools implement green energy sources and save on energy costs  freeing up costs for educational needs – but also provide students with the opportunity to learn more about the climate crisis, renewable energy and energy efficiency, inspiring the next generation to decarbonise their future.

Gympanzees support children and young people with sensory, physical, learning difficulties, SEN and any mild to profound disability. Gympanzees have provided a lifeline to many families, by providing a safe space for children and young people to exercise, socialise and develop. Their first-of-its-kind permanent play centre opens its doors this year and will pioneer a new model of access and inclusion for disabled people.

Organic farming

Orchard

Mole End Farm is one of the UK’s leading organic producers of apples and pears across eight orchards in Kent. They supply leading food distributors, such as Riverford and Abel & Cole, and are committed to Soil Association and LEAF certifications. The farm maintains over 50 beehives for natural pollinations and use natural remedies for crop protection. Mole End Farm transitioned to being Employee Owned in late 2025, with the support of Triodos finance.

Affordable housing

Residents having a party

Triodos Bank has been working with Arawak Walton Housing Association for over 15 years, providing loans to create affordable homes and vibrant, sustainable, and multi-cultural communities across Manchester, Trafford and Stockport. They are the largest independent housing association serving ethinic minority communities in the Northwest. Meeting the needs of their tenants is at the heart of everything they do, as they tackle social deprivation and provide homes as a foundation for life.

These are just some of the inspiring and change-making organisations your money is funding. We publish the details of every loan we make, so you can find more about where your money goes here.
