The funding marks a major milestone for the resort, enabling it to expand its eco-conscious operations, enhance wellness offerings, and deepen its commitment to community and environmental stewardship.

The loan will refinance existing debt and unlock new investment in infrastructure, guest experience and green initiatives – reinforcing St Michaels Resort’s position as one of the UK’s leading destinations for ethical hospitality.

Just a short walk from Falmouth’s iconic coastline, St Michaels Resort blends luxury with purpose. As a pioneer in green tourism the hotel has received a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Its ‘Feel Good Again’ philosophy is embraced in all aspects of the resort, from the state-of-the-art health club and hydrothermal spa to dedicated Green Team that organises beach clean ups, protects local green spaces and educates guests on sustainability.

The hotel’s commitment to sustainability goes further with eco-friendly upgrades to room and facilities, e-bike rentals for guest hire and energy efficient systems.

Nigel Carpenter, owner of St Michaels Resort, commented: “We’re proud to be at the forefront of sustainable tourism in Cornwall — creating experiences that nourish the body, respect the planet, and support our local community. This funding is a powerful endorsement of our vision. With Triodos Bank’s support, we’re doubling down on our commitment to ethical travel and meaningful hospitality.”

Triodos Bank UK has provided finance for sustainable tourism for over 20 years. As part of its sustainability criteria, the bank only lends to Green Tourism-certified businesses or those working towards it.

Tony Kear, senior relationship manager at Triodos Bank UK, added: “St Michaels Resort is a shining example of what responsible tourism can look like. Their impact goes far beyond the hotel walls — shaping a greener, more inclusive future for Falmouth and the wider region. We’re proud to partner with a business that shares our values and is actively building a better tourism model.”
