Distgen (the trading name for the group parented by Participa Ltd) has operated refurbished community-scale wind turbines for 20 years, with 68,450 MWh of clean energy generated to date. The investment will help to sustainably repower its Faccombe turbine in Hampshire, which in 2025 generated 795 MWh of clean energy. Repowering the project by replacing the turbine with a refurbished model is expected to increase this figure to 2,479 MWh. Income for the turbine is underpinned by the government-backed Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) scheme until January 2032.
The bond offer is the first crowdfunding campaign originated and structured by Triodos to be hosted on the Ethex platform. Pioneers in ethical finance, Triodos and Ethex have formed the new partnership to combine their strengths and investor communities, enabling more capital to flow to projects that deliver benefits for people and planet. Triodos Bank UK and Ethex remain independent in sourcing investment opportunities, focusing on complementary areas and sectors.
This latest bond offer follows a crowdfunding campaign by Triodos Bank UK in 2025, which raised £550,000 for Distgen to repower its wind turbine on the island of Orkney. The offer was filled in just 21 hours.
John Zamick, founder and CEO of Distgen, said: “Renewable energy has supplied more than 50% of the UK’s electricity for the past two years and wind power is a cornerstone in achieving net zero targets, as well as improving energy security. Infrastructure like our Faccombe turbine helps us to share the benefits of renewable energy as locally as possible and replacing the existing turbine means we’ll be able to substantially increase its power generation.”
The current turbine has supplied renewable electricity directly to local consumers through the site’s private network for more than ten years, including two commercial-scale organisations: Faccombe Manor and Jack Russell Inn. The repowering project will extend this model by adding nearby Self’s Farm to the network.
Jeremy Pannell, Senior Corporate Finance Manager at Triodos Bank UK added: “Repowering plays a critical role in maintaining renewable energy sources around the UK and projects like this give people the opportunity to invest in solutions that address both the implications of climate change and social inequality. Through our new partnership with Ethex, we’re able to extend this opportunity to an even greater range of investors who are looking to support projects that deliver benefits to people and planet.”
The eight-year bond has a minimum investment of £50, paying 7.25% interest annually. Interest payments and repayment of capital are not guaranteed.
The bond is eligible to be held in the Ethex Innovative Finance ISA (IFISA), that allows interest to be received tax-free. Share In Ltd is the ISA manager for the Ethex IFISA. Like all ISAs, the IFISA is subject to eligibility requirements. ISA eligibility does not guarantee returns or protect consumers from losing all the money they have invested.
Important information
Investments offered on the Ethex crowdfunding platform are not readily realisable, which means that they may be difficult to sell, and you may not get back the full amount invested. Investments are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and your capital is at risk and returns are not guaranteed. Repayment of capital and interest will be dependent on the success of the organisation's business model and past performance isn’t a reliable indicator of future performance. You should always read the offer document in full before deciding whether to invest as it will cover risks specific to an individual investment. You can read more about the general risks associated with making these types of investments here. If you are unsure if any of these investments are right for you, you should contact an Independent Financial Adviser.
