The move underscores Triodos Bank UK’s ambition to scale up its presence in the UK’s sustainable property market, drawing on deep-rooted expertise from its European operations, where the bank has financed green residential and commercial schemes since 2007.

Suraj brings over 20 years of UK real estate finance experience, having previously supported SME property developers and intermediaries in private credit origination roles. His career includes senior positions at Homes England, Nationwide Building Society and RBS, with a proven track record in investment and development loans across residential, commercial and specialist sectors.

Suraj and the wider team will focus on financing investment and development activity aligned with the bank’s sustainability criteria: residential and commercial real estate delivering positive environmental and social outcomes – such as affordable and specialist care accommodation – new energy efficient homes, and diverse and inclusive workplaces.

The team will assess proposals for new and existing properties, prioritising the repurpose of existing assets committed to decarbonisation, in addition to new-build development projects achieving BREEAM Excellent or higher, or EPC A rating outcomes.

Speaking about his new role, Suraj commented: “Joining Triodos Bank offers me the chance to apply my property finance expertise within an organisation driven by environmental and social impact. I look forward to supporting clients who share our sustainable values and ambitions.”

Triodos Bank UK has an established track record in sustainable property finance, with projects such as Copeland Park, where traditional warehouses have been transformed into creative workspaces. The bank also partners extensively with housing associations, care operators, and charities.

Simon Crichton, Deputy Director of Business Banking at Triodos Bank UK, added: “Property is central to meeting the UK’s climate targets and social needs. Now is the time to deepen our sustainable finance capability to accelerate support for impactful projects – from affordable, energy efficient homes to decarbonising existing buildings. Suraj’s appointment strengthens our team, and we look forward to expanding our lending for impact across the UK.”

Triodos Bank UK’s business banking team comprises over 30 relationship and corporate finance managers, with more than 30 years’ experience lending to sustainable organisations.

The bank was named Sustainability Champion of the Year 2025 at the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB)’s Commercial Lender Awards, recognising its leadership in advancing sustainability within commercial finance.
