It was always going to be a big year for Triodos Bank UK as we celebrated our 30th anniversary. I am tremendously proud that in that time, we have lent over £2.5 billion to projects and organisations delivering transformative social and environmental impact in the UK.

Triodos is not like other banks. We are focused on a vision of a prosperous life for all people on a thriving planet. Our specialist financing spans many areas such as education, nature-based solutions, healthcare, clean energy, organic farms and social housing. To celebrate this, we have captured some of the stories behind our loans over the past 30 years in a special Stories of Transformative Impact publication. It is well worth a read if you haven't already seen it, and it is thanks to the support of customers like you that we are able to deliver such incredible impact.

In recent months, it has been a priority for me to spend as much time as possible visiting organisations we lend to and partner with. Each time, I am inspired by a future where businesses that do good are the norm. At the same time, more people than ever are choosing to support responsible businesses and understanding the role that money plays within this: every time you pay, save, invest or take a loan, your choices have an impact.

It is no longer enough for banks to simply avoid funding harmful practices. Banking with Triodos means your money shapes a brighter future for you and the world around you. Through every transaction, you make that bright future a reality.

A focus on customer experience

Contactless mobile payments are available with the Triodos current account

I know a good banking experience helps you to organise your everyday life or business. This year, we have continued to work hard to deliver improvements to our products and new features within our mobile banking app. Many of you told us that you wanted to see the personal current account offer mobile digital payments and I am delighted that this year, we have rolled out Apple Pay, Google Pay and VISA click-to-pay. The mobile banking app also now includes Insights, our new money management tool.

While new accounts for children, including Junior ISAs, were not reintroduced as planned, I'm pleased to say they will be available next year. Unfortunately, offering a new business current account proposition is still something that is hard for us to deliver soon, but we are pleased to continue offering a range of business and charity savings deposit accounts.

Remaining the number one ethical bank

In April, Ethical Consumer magazine once again flagged Triodos Bank as the top choice ethical bank in the UK. This was backed up by being one of only two banks awarded with Which? Eco Provider status, being a certified B Corporation and now a four times winner of the King's Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category.

A few weeks ago, I sat down with our customer, Gillian Burke, to give you some insight on how Triodos continues to maintain this commitment to ethical and sustainable banking in a rapidly changing world

What we stand for

This year, it has been hard to see conflict dividing so many of us and increasing levels of misinformation promoting climate denial in the face of ever more catastrophic evidence. Against this external backdrop, it is disappointing to see many banks pull back from sustainability commitments.

We must show that progressive businesses can stand up for what's right. We need climate plans that are bold and fair. Communities already facing the worst impacts of climate breakdown mustn't be left behind. Fairness is essential. Not just because it's the right thing, but because public support demands it.

We should all be able to unite around providing warm homes, clean air, lower bills, better public transport, thriving nature and green jobs accessible to all. With these things in mind, I am committed to continue our work advocating for broader change in the financial system.

Talking to customers, I realise we have developed a wonderful community around Triodos over the past 30 years. Tackling the big societal challenges ahead of us will require hard work and an optimistic outlook. But I can assure you that Triodos Bank will remain committed to this work.

From all of us, thank you for sharing in what we stand for. Please keep on recommending us to others, as the more people who choose to bank with us, the greater impact we can have. We have some exciting updates coming up, including a fresh look for Triodos Bank in the new year!

Wishing you a happy, peaceful festive season, and a healthy 2026.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Clayton
