Community energy supports systemic transformation by accelerating the transition to a more sustainable society and economy. The impact it has, engaging and supporting communities goes beyond its capacity to increase the UK’s capacity to generate renewable energy.

In our response we call on the government to address the key financial issues that will put community energy back on a path to success. Our three principal asks are:

  • Developing a consistent means to help fund community energy projects.
  • Establishing mechanisms that will give community groups confidence in their ability to generate revenue.
  • Reinstating tax relief for community energy shares in schemes operated by Community Interest Companies, Co-Operatives and Community Benefit Societies.
