Yes, Triodos offers Open Banking services, enabling providers to integrate their apps and tools with our systems via their API. Triodos will only facilitate the sharing of your account information with other parties when you have provided your explicit consent for us to do so. Find out more about Open Banking.

To activate your card, use your PIN to withdraw money from an ATM or when making a payment. You will need to do this before you make any contactless or online payments.

Your PIN is viewable in the Triodos Mobile Banking App under More > Cards. If you have never used the Triodos App, your PIN will be sent in the post separately.

Historically, smaller challenger banks such as Triodos had no option but to utilise one of the “big four” banks (NatWest Group, Lloyds, HSBC and Barclays) for payment clearing services.

So it is not unusual to see banks of Triodos’ size (or indeed some far bigger organisations) still utilising the “big four” clearing banks.

However, there is currently a real drive by the government, via the Payments Systems Regulator, to promote competition in the banking sector and to encourage innovation in payment systems.

This has resulted in a wider choice of clearing options (including alternative providers and/or direct clearing) now available to challenger banks.

While changing our clearing arrangements would be a very large undertaking we continue to review the options, remaining conscious of maintaining a high quality of service for all our customers.

You can use the Triodos App to log in to Internet Banking by following these steps:

1. Go to the Triodos login page on your internet browser and select the tab called ‘Log in with mobile app’.
2. Open the Triodos App on a second device and tap the QR button in the corner of the login page.
3. Scan the QR code on your internet browser with the scanner.
4. Use your passcode, fingerprint or face recognition when prompted in the app.
5. Tap ‘confirm’ in the app and Internet Banking will automatically log in.

It’s best to cut your card into pieces, making sure to cut through the chip and magnetic strip and put the card in with your normal waste, rather than your recycling. If possible, don’t put all the pieces of the card in the same bin or with any related documentation such as receipts or statements.

You can cancel a standing order through Internet Banking or through the Triodos Mobile Banking App.

In Internet Banking, go to your account, select ‘Upcoming’, select the Standing Order you wish to cancel, and select ‘Delete’.

In the Triodos Mobile App, go to your account then the ‘Upcoming’ tab and select and delete the payment.

If your available balance is less than the monthly fee it will still be taken, this may result in an unarranged overdraft. You won't be charged any additional fees. If you are experiencing financial difficulty please contact us or seek advice from an independent support service such as the citizens advice bureau or the money advice service. To change your setting for SMS text messages please log in to your Internet Banking and use the quick links in ‘Self service’ then ‘Settings’ to visit your Account Profile. Here you can click on ‘Mailing Settings’ to amend your text notification settings and then save the changes.

We realise that some customers won't want to bank online and that will mean that this account isn't for them. As a small bank we have had to make some difficult choices about the proposition and in an environment that is becoming increasingly digital we decided an online account was the right option. We considered telephone and postal banking but the costs to offer this service would have been overly prohibitive to launching the product.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) is a UK body which gives you automatic protection up to £85,000 if your bank, building society, or credit union goes out of business.

Your eligible deposits with Triodos Bank UK are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the FSCS. An eligible deposit is money in accounts such as current and savings accounts, including cash ISAs. With Triodos, this will also cover cash held in investment accounts but not the investments themselves.

Please note that the £85,000 will apply to the total of all eligible deposits with Triodos Bank rather than per account or product. Any deposits over this amount are unlikely to be covered.

To see what consents are active on your account, log into Internet Banking and go to ‘Account Profile’ and then ‘Open Banking Consents’. If you use our mobile app you can find this under ‘More’, ‘Preferences and privacy’.

Yes, you can. You may find it helpful to rename your accounts to make identifying and distinguishing them a bit easier. To do this, go into ‘Account settings’, select the account you would like to change the name of, then click on ‘Account name’. Once here you can amend the account name.

No. The account is online only (via mobile app and internet banking) with text alerts to help customers manage their money. However, our Contact Team is available to offer support should you have any issues using your account contact us.

There can be many reasons why your card payment might be declined. For example:

• Your card is set by default to only allow transactions in Europe. This means that an online card payment will be declined if you are trying to pay a company that is based outside of Europe, even if you are paying in GBP. You can change your card usage to worldwide in the Triodos Mobile Banking App by going to More > Cards > Card usage abroad, or in Internet Banking by going to Self service > Cards > Card usage abroad.
• You may need to adjust your card daily limit. This can be done in the Triodos App under More > Cards > Card daily limits, or in Internet Banking under Self service > Cards > Card daily limits.
• Your address may not match with both the retailer and your Triodos account. You can check your address in the Triodos App under More > Personal information, or in Internet Banking under Self service > Personal settings.
• You may need to approve the payment. More information on this can be found here.

No, we don't currently offer Apple Pay or Google Wallet (Google Pay or Android Pay) however we are working towards offering Apple Pay and Google wallet in the future. In the meantime there may be some providers which allow you to register your card to be able to use a mobile wallet.
